“Peace is the process of retraining your mind to process life as it is rather than the way you think it should be.” – Wayne Dyer

No truer words have ever been spoken…

When I was younger, anxiety and I were constant companions. We spent many sleepless nights together—me tossing and turning, replaying every "what if" and worst-case scenario in my mind. It was exhausting, both mentally and physically. I tried to control every detail of my life in an attempt to feel safe, but it only deepened my sense of unease.

Then, I discovered the Serenity Prayer, and something within me began to shift. Each time worry crept in, I’d pause and recite it:

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference."

Those words became a lifeline. They reminded me that I didn’t have to carry the weight of everything. That I could breathe. That peace wasn’t something outside of me—it was a mindset, a muscle that needed to be trained with intention and grace.

Acceptance became the key to restoring my peace. But what really helped me hold onto it was self-care.

Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and spa days—although those can help too. It’s about creating space in your life for rest, reflection, and renewal. It’s about setting boundaries, listening to your body, and honoring your emotional needs. For me, that meant journaling, spending time in nature, unplugging from the noise, and surrounding myself with people who gave me room to be real.

And most of all, it meant traveling.

Travel became one of the most powerful forms of self-care in my life. It gave me room to breathe, space to reflect, and the freedom to reconnect with myself away from the pressures of everyday life. Whether I was sitting on the grounds of the Eiffel Tower at midnight or riding camels along the beaches of Kenya—travel renewed me in ways nothing else could. It’s where I find clarity, courage, and connection. It’s how I come back home to myself.

Peace doesn't always come easy. But when we learn to accept life on life’s terms and prioritize our well-being, we begin to create space for it to settle in.

If you’re on a journey to reclaim your peace, what does self-care look like for you?
